In order not to be reduced to the representation of female Asian stereotypes, Olivia Hyunsin Kim gave up theater and film for dance. But she was forced to admit: the international dance scene as well as the western dance history have their own strategies of making the “other” exotic. In her performance, ‘she came, she saw, she said: meme’ she consciously asks the naïve question: how can stereotypes and day-to-day and exotic clichés beyond parody and reproduction become a means for self-empowerment?
